Check Elkhart County Wanted Fugitives

Elkhart County posts its wanted fugitives through the prosecutor's office. The list is selective, not exhaustive. Each card describes a person being sought locally. That gives residents a way to spot a name and pass along a tip. The photos belong to the agency that publishes them. If you see someone listed, do not follow, confront, or try to detain that person. Want to know whether a specific warrant exists? The county has no verified public criminal-warrant portal, so a separate check is required.

What Elkhart Wanted Cards Show

Cards differ in what they contain, since each reflects what the agency supplied. A blank field is just that, blank. Never fill one in by guessing. Physical descriptions can shift over time, too. Treat the listed details as a way to compare against the official record and to hand the agency something useful.

FieldWhat the official card may show
Name and photographThe listed identity and an agency-published image when one is supplied
Alleged offenseThe stated basis for the prosecutor's listing
City and stateA location associated with the card, not proof of present whereabouts
Birth informationMonth and year when published, rather than a full birth date
Physical descriptionHeight, weight, hair, eyes, and race when available
Support amountA child-support amount on relevant nonsupport listings
Offense categoryThe prosecutor's grouping for the alleged matter

Some cards skip fields entirely. A photo, a location, or partial birth data is never a reason to confront someone. If you think you have a match, send it to the prosecutor. Trained officials will take it from there.

Use the Wanted List Safely

A name search on the list filters the published cards. Search carefully and read the whole card, not just a name. Keep every action inside the official tip process. The safe workflow takes only a few steps.

  1. Open the prosecutor's Featured Fugitives page and use its search box for the name.
  2. Read the entire official card. Compare the name, image, physical details, alleged offense, and associated place without assuming every field is current.
  3. If a possible match is seen, do not approach or attempt to detain the person. Record only information that can be shared safely.
  4. Call the prosecutor's listed tip number or use its official online contact route. Give the card name and clear facts about what was observed.
  5. For later custody information, search the official county booking channel described in the Elkhart County booking lookup. A booking is still not a conviction.

The official landing page is the source that matters here, and current cards stay on the prosecutor's site rather than being copied over. Open the prosecutor's Featured Fugitives list before trusting a saved screenshot or an older mention.

A screenshot goes stale; the source page does not. Before acting, confirm the card is still posted and use the agency's current contact information.

Elkhart Fugitive Tips and Safety

Tips go to the prosecutor at 574-296-1888. An online contact route is offered as well. No reward was advertised on the Featured Fugitives page. The page also never promised anonymity for its route, so do not assume either benefit. If how your identifying information is handled matters to you, ask before you submit it.

Online: prosecutor contact route
Reward: none advertised
Anonymity: not promised on the published route
Safety: Do not approach, follow, restrain, warn, or try to arrest a listed person. Report the information and let law enforcement respond.

Facing an immediate threat? Call emergency services. For a featured card, the prosecutor's published route is the direct channel. A general sheriff tip form also accepts incident details and attachments, though its page makes no express anonymity guarantee. Skip public social media posts, which can spread a mistaken identity or get in the way of an official response.

Note: No Elkhart County reward, anonymous-tip promise, or public schedule for updating fugitive cards was verified during research.

Check an Elkhart County Warrant

No verified public criminal-warrant search portal exists for Elkhart County. The prosecutor's featured list covers only selected people, not every warrant. Indiana MyCase might surface a public docket order. Even so, it falls short for warrant certification. Sealed, confidential, unserved, or otherwise excluded matters may simply not appear. Indiana public-access guidance adds that a trial judge can keep an unserved arrest or search warrant confidential.

  1. Search Indiana MyCase by party name or case number for a public docket entry. Match the county, court, and identifying details.
  2. Contact the Elkhart County Clerk or the court that may have issued the order. Ask what public information can be confirmed and how to address the matter safely.
  3. If the issuing court is unknown, call ECSO non-emergency dispatch for routing. Do not use emergency lines for a routine record question.
  4. Someone who believes a warrant may concern them should speak with an attorney or the issuing court about the lawful next step. Do not rely on an absent web result.
  5. Follow the court's or counsel's instructions. Nothing in a public search certifies that a warrant is active, cleared, served, or recalled.

Judgments, orders, and court records live with the Clerk. Criminal work in Elkhart County is split among Circuit Court and Superior Courts 1, 3, and 4, with city courts in the mix as well. Which court fits depends on the case. The clerk can route a public-record question, but legal advice belongs with counsel.

Elkhart Warrant Types Differ

The word "warrant" covers documents with very different purposes. Knowing the type matters. Otherwise a tax collection page or a court search gets mistaken for a complete criminal-warrant lookup.

TypeWhat it generally concernsCorrect route
Arrest warrantA court command authorizing an arrest in a criminal matterIssuing court, clerk, counsel, or ECSO routing
Bench warrantA court-issued command tied to a case, often after a missed or unmet court requirementThe court and clerk for that case, or counsel
Search warrantCourt authority to search a stated place, person, or propertyIssuing court when public; confidentiality may apply before service
Tax warrantA delinquent-liability collection instrument, not an arrest-warrant lookupThe applicable tax collection channel

The Sheriff's tax-warrant material deals strictly with revenue collection. It separates a tax warrant from an arrest warrant. So it cannot tell you whether someone faces a criminal warrant. By the same token, an empty MyCase result is no proof of clearance.

Elkhart Sheriff App Limits

Elkhart County Sheriff IN is the sheriff office's own mobile app. The iOS listing shows ECSO as the developer. Its launch announcement promised jail information, an inmate search, public-safety news, reporting tools, and a tip line. A Google Play version was announced too. No confirmed Play link exists, so none appears here.

Treat the app as a doorway, not a rival source. Its inmate data still flows from the same county and state systems behind the scenes. If the app and the website ever disagree, INjail and ECSO remain the places to settle it. One early report mentioned photos missing from listings. That likely reflected an interface hiccup rather than lasting photo policy.

Don't count on social media for fugitive coverage, either. There's no sheriff-run booking-photo feed. There is no "Warrant Wednesday" series and no standing wanted list from the department. Sheriff and city posts pick and choose what fits the news of the day. The prosecutor's Featured Fugitives page stands alone as the county's local wanted publication.

Wanted, Booked, and Disposed

These records mark different points on the same road. A featured fugitive card means the prosecutor wants tips about one chosen person. A warrant is a judge's command. A booking entry shows the jail has received somebody. A disposition closes the file by recording the outcome. Each answers a different question, and none can stand in for the rest.

Say a featured fugitive gets caught. Check INjail first. Custody there is the real confirmation of the arrest. No published schedule governs the wanted card, so it may linger after the fact. Once custody checks out, MyCase takes over. Filed charges, hearings, orders, judgment, and final disposition all live there.

Note: Removal from a wanted page, disappearance from a roster, and resolution of a court case are separate events with separate records.
